Hello everyone. Today, a short article about the liver… It is one of the most important organs in our body which, in simple terms, processes what we eat and cleanses our food of toxins – it acts like a blood filter. Let’s take a look at how to take care of one of our most vital organs. Liver problems, aside from a poor diet, often result from stress, tension, anger, and frustration. It is, of course, worth looking at your life first and trying to eliminate the causes of the liver’s poor condition (if you drink, for example, a bottle of vodka a day – simply applying the suggestions below won’t help…).
If we want to improve its functioning, it is good to start the day with water and lemon – with one note – we do not drink cold or hot water; it should be at our body temperature, so it doesn’t force our body to make an effort but only slightly warms it up. A good idea is to prepare such a drink before going to sleep and keep it in a good thermos next to the bed that will maintain its temperature until morning. When it comes to food and drinks that improve liver function, there is a rule of bitter flavors like chicory, arugula, dandelion, artichokes, and grapefruits which help it function better. Also garlic, onion, leek, and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower) support its functioning. Additionally, spinach, kale, green tea, lemon balm, or parsley are also good for our important organ.
Of course, the basis of supporting liver function is not feeding it with toxins, which simply means cutting it off primarily from alcohol, refined sugar, and trans fats.
The liver must also have time to regenerate – if you have a problem with it, it’s also a good idea to create an eating window (e.g., you eat your first meal at 10 AM, and the main one no later than 6 PM, the rest of the time you just drink water or herbs – meaning you have a so-called 8-hour eating window and 16 hours is time for the body and digestion to regenerate). To help the liver function better, it is worth massaging the Liv 3 point with circular movements.

Torso twisting movements and Ba Duan Jin head movements also positively affect the liver meridians.

Below is a simple daily schedule to improve liver function: We get up in the morning, drink a glass of warm water with lemon. Then we do exercises – we perform torso and chest twists 5 times in each direction – this can be combined with arm movements gently going in opposite directions, then Qigong head movements:
- Starting position: Sit or stand straight. Look straight ahead. Relax your shoulders.
- Twist and gaze: Slowly turn your head to the left – as far as is comfortable (without neck pain).
- Eye work (This is the most important): When the head is turned as far as it will go, lead your eyes even further to the left. Try to look as far behind you as you can, as if you wanted to see something behind your back.
- Hold: Hold this extreme gaze for 2-3 seconds.
- Return: Slowly return your head to the center, looking straight ahead again.
- Second side: Repeat exactly the same to the right side.
- Do 3-5 repetitions for each side.

After something like this in the morning – believe me… coffee is not needed…
I would eat the first meal at 10:00 AM – standard scrambled eggs with parsley plus warm, crispy garlic bread would be great, washed down with green tea. I would drink the first coffee later after the meal. Dinner would be at 5:00 PM and it would probably be some fish, e.g., steamed cod with green vegetables, ginger, and jasmine rice, after that I don’t eat anything. In the evening, around 7:00 PM, I drink lemon balm, and around 9:00 PM before bed, I do a circular massage of the Liv 3 point. I go to sleep around 10:00 PM and get up at 6:00 AM – I try to maintain a regime of 8 hours of sleep – which is important for the liver and the overall health of the body.
Finally, I will add that I am not a qualified dietitian or a doctor, so these are just my personal notes 🙂 and everyone does what they think is best.
